Wow, I cannot believe that February is already almost halfway over! Does this year seem to be flying by but also taking forever at the same time? I don't know, maybe I'm just crazy haha. With that being said, I wanted to take the time to highlight another womxn-owned business for the month of February! If you follow me on Instagram, then you have probably seen a lot of boudoir pictures lately (sorry not sorry). I am so excited to feature Luci from Desert Boudoir AZ on the blog this month!
Luci and I’s paths crossed when I discovered Beloved Studios and they started sharing her work. I started following her and became obsessed with her photography. She is so amazing, authentic, and just a genuine human being. I finally met her in person when she decided to bring together a group of womxn for a body positivity shoot. This shoot was so inspiring and empowering not only for me but for the womxn around me. After this, she invited Nolan and me to do an intimate couples session (which I’m sure you’ve seen before if you follow me on IG). Her positive and fun attitude is contagious, and she makes you feel so at ease and comfortable. Check out my interview below with Luci from Desert Boudoir AZ.
How did you get started in photography?
I have always loved photography since I was a teenager. However, I would only take photos for family and friends but never took on clients. I have done a number of "photoshoots" while I was in college ranging from high fashion themed to Black Swan inspired. It is a creative outlet for me to decompress and the only "art" I find myself good at.
What made you want to start shooting boudoir?
One day I texted a friend and told her I wanted to start doing boudoir photography. At the time, there were not many photographers out there specializing in this area. It also felt like such a "taboo" field to get into. But when I think boudoir, I think of
the beauty in a womxn's body. The feeling you get when you see a photo of yourself in the most intimate state and find yourself saying things like, "WOW! That is me?", "OMG!! I look so good, I cannot believe that is me," or "I have never felt more sexy and beautiful!" All of these things and so much more. Society has a way of showcasing the "false" and unrealistic side of what is beautiful, especially which "body" is considered perfect.
As cliche as it sounds, there is no perfect body. It is more so how we FEEL than the number we see on the scale or on the back of our jeans. There is a quote I absolutely love, and I find it to fit my values, my mission, and my branding very well.
“Body confidence doesn't come from trying to achieve the perfect body, it comes from embracing the one you've already got.”
What is the biggest thing you've learned from shooting this style?
I am my client's number one hype girl (haha). I make it comfortable and non-intimidating by being my goofy and imperfect self. I yell, I praise, I encourage, and I show my clients images straight from my camera and every single time, the reaction is, "OMG!! WOW!!" Here is another great quote to wrap up this question:
"Don't be the reason another womxn feels insecure. Be the reason she feels supported, encouraged, seen, heard, and important."
What are your hopes for 2021?
I hope I continue to meet more beautiful faces and hearts. I hope I can continue to take away someone's insecurity and help them find their self-worth.
Finally, what would you tell someone who is nervous to shoot boudoir?
Just do it! It is scary (believe me I know) but once you see those photos of yourself, it is going to change you in the most beautiful and magical way. Plus, there is never a dull moment with me (ask any of my clients)!
I can attest to Luci’s statement, there is NEVER a dull moment with her. When Nolan and I had our couple’s photoshoot, she made him feel so comfortable in front of the camera.
Check out Luci’s website here, and click here to book a session with her (you won’t regret it!). A huge thank you to Luci for not only being a kind and wonderful soul but for taking the time to answer my questions.
